Why Coach?
As the sport of ultimate grows, the need for skilled & qualified coaches and instructors is increasing every year.
Coaching is a viable and rewarding way to participate in ultimate. Coaches come from a variety of backgrounds, and you don't need to be an elite player to be an effective coach. If you are an active player, a retired player, a parent or a teacher, consider giving coaching a shot!
Training and Support
Good coaches help players learn to play ultimate in a fun, safe, and effective way, and the VUL is committed to developing qualified coaches at all levels throughout Metro Vancouver.
There are a number of services to support the development of coaches.
Annual Coaching Conference
We co-host an annual coaching conference with BC Ultimate in late February or early March. It is jam-packed with valuable information for new and experienced coaches.
Formal Training - NCCP
Ultimate Canada now offers National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) courses in partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada. The VUL often subsidizes the cost of these workshops for coaches in our programs (depending on the role).
If you are interested in attending one of these workshops, contact youth@vul.ca.
Resources
Several free downloadable resources are available on the BC Ultimate and the Ultimate Canada website.
BCU also supports coaching development outside of the NCCP stream. You can apply for financial support for coaching development here.
