CAAWS Women and Leadership Event

You are invited to celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday March 8, presented in partnership with ProMOTION Plus, CAAWS and viaSport! This is an exciting full-day professional development and networking event featuring two of CAAWS’ Women and Leadership Workshops, a luncheon speaker and exciting announcements from CAAWS.

Meet our keynote speaker

Allison McNeill, coach of the Canadian National Women’s Basketball Team from 2002-2012, lead the team to a top 8 finish in London and to their first Olympic appearance in 12 years. Prior to coaching Team Canada Allison coached at the University of Oregon, Simon Fraser University and the Canadian Junior National Team. Allison McNeill, recently named one of CAAWS’ Most Influential Women of 2012, has a wide array of experience in coaching and will speak to her experiences and career path.

CAAWS' workshops

The CAAWS Women and Leadership Workshops blend theory with practical applications and provide an opportunity for young women professionals working or volunteering in the sport and physical activity sector to share their experiences, reflect on ideas, and apply specific techniques. CAAWS’ workshops have been completely redeveloped, featuring new content relevant for today’s young professionals – join us for their national launch!

Workshop facilitator: Irene Schell

Irene brings more than 20 years of work and volunteer experience in the sport sector, and with organizations like the United Way and Rotary Club, to facilitating CAAWS’ Women and Leadership Workshops. Her involvement has ranged from serving as the Executive Director, to working on a committee, to chairing the Board. Irene has been an Event Manager with the BC Games Society for over thirteen years, and also serves as the Technology Manager. Irene served on the ProMOTION Plus Board from 2003-2010, including time as the Board’s Chair, and is currently a member of the Sport BC Board of Directors.
