Upcoming World Juniors, CDN Nationals, More

Well folks, we're about to head into an exciting couple of weeks in Canadian Ultimate. I hope I'm not the only one excited about this... I'm sure I'm not; but call me a geek if you must (I've been called worse names by better people).

The Canadian Junior Open and Women teams are representing us in the World Junior tournament being held this year near Boston on August 13 through 18th. Included on the rosters are quite a few Vancouver juniors. And these teams (not identical teams, but I understand many of the same players) kicked ass two years ago in Finland, with the Canadian Women taking gold over the USA and the reverse result for the Canadian Open guys. They should represent well. Don't be surprised to see a pair of Canada vs USA finals again.

And right around the end of this tournament, is the Canadian Ultimate Championships being held this year in Halifax on August 17 through 20th. We've got the Junior teams Pyro and Vortex from BC and the Fraser Valley, respectively. Also representing Vancouver are the Mixed team, Natural, and Open team, Blackfish.

Before you ask something like, "but what about the other Vancouver POWER teams not going to Nationals, like Furious, Prime, RoughRiders, Team Fisher Price, Joyride, Nomads, or Grind?". Well, the first three of these teams are attending Emerald City Classic (ECC), hosted by Seattle teams that same weekend, which will give them very valuable experience for each of their respective challenges coming up over the next few months. And all of them are focusing their efforts and dollars on items that are higher on their priority list. For those that don't quite know what I'm talking about, Furious, the RoughRiders and Grind crews are prepping for the UPA series and the last 5 of these for World Clubs in Australia in November. And of course, with significant travel dollars being budgeted and the necessity for getting the most challenging experience to help ensure each of them represent well, their decision is pretty much a no-brainer.

I'll try to keep you all updated as I can. This is just the start of what's sure to be a very exciting next few months....
