Coaching Opportunities
As Ultimate grows, the need for qualified coaches and instructors is increasing every year. Coaching is a very rewarding way to participate in Ultimate. Coaches come from a variety of backgrounds, and you don't need to be an elite player to be an effective coach. If you are an active player, a retired player, a parent or a teacher, consider giving coaching a shot!
Youth Camp & Clinic Instructors
We offer many programs that ensure youth have fun while learning to play! These include week-long day camps (ages 8–14) during spring break and summer break, and year-round development programs (ages 13–19). Experience coaching youth is an asset. Applications are accepted year-round. Contact us for more information.
Youth Club Coaches
We run competitive summer club teams for ages 13–19 in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Richmond, and Surrey. We need dozens of coaches every year to prepare teams for provincial and national championships. Experience coaching youth is an asset, but new coaches are always welcome to apply.
| Duties & Responsibilities | As a Youth Club Coach, you will be responsible for attending and planning for practices and tournaments and developing a positive, inclusive, and spirited team culture. You should be passionate in developing the game of ultimate with youth, and ideally will have experience playing ultimate in a competitive environment. Coaches must be at least 19 years of age or older for local-competing teams teams, and 21 years of age or older for national-competing teams. All coaches must agree to the VULS Youth Supervisor Code of Conduct and pass a criminal record check once every five years. |
| Training & Support | Good coaches help players learn to play ultimate in a fun, safe, and effective way, and we are committed to developing qualified coaches at all levels throughout Metro Vancouver.
|
| Benefits | Coaches receive required training, a stipend, and a travel subsidy for out-of-region events. Coaches are supported by administrative staff who handle tournament registration, logistics, equipment, and apparel, so coaches can focus on coaching. |
| Application | To apply, submit a resume and short cover letter outlining your background in leading groups, working with youth, and any other relevant experience.

Volunteer Committees
Committees are one of the best ways to get involved with the Vancouver Ultimate League. Each committee brings together 4–8 members who meet every two months (virtually or in person) to share ideas, provide strategic guidance, and help shape the future of ultimate in Metro Vancouver. Committees focus on discussion, planning, and proposals—leaving final decisions to the board or, for operational projects, the Executive Director.
Joining a committee is flexible—there’s no election process or fixed term, and you can step in at any time of year. For many, it’s a fun, low-commitment way to give back to the community, make connections, and get a taste of leadership before considering a board position.
| Governance | Strengthen VUL’s foundation by reviewing bylaws and policies, ensuring the league runs smoothly and transparently. |
| Strategic Planning | Look to the future by identifying priorities and helping chart VUL’s path for long-term growth. |
| Finance | Keep VUL on solid ground by reviewing budgets, monitoring financial health, and recommending smart investments. |
| Awards | Celebrate excellence by planning nominations and recognition programs that shine a spotlight on players, teams, and volunteers. |
| Equity, Diversity and Inclusion | Champion fairness and accessibility, helping the league grow into a truly welcoming space for all players. |
| Spirit of the Game | Promote fair play and sportsmanship through resources, workshops, and initiatives that reinforce ultimate’s culture. |
| Player Experience | Focus on what matters most: fun, engaging seasons. Collect feedback, recommend improvements, and enhance the overall player journey. |
| Nominations & Recruitment | Bring in new energy by finding and welcoming future board and committee members. |
| Touring Clubs | Support teams representing Vancouver beyond league play, coordinating logistics and sharing resources to help players succeed on the road. |
