New Faces Elected To VUL Board of Directors

The VUL welcomed three new faces to its Board of Directors following the Annual General Meeting held on December 13th. Khrystianne Peralta, John Zhou, and Kelly Wunderlich were elected for a two-year term, along with Ari Metzger, who is returning for a second 2-year term. They join David Midgley, Lisa Riddle, and Ken Su, who have one year remaining in their term. Riddle will serve as President for 2023, Su as Vice President, while Midgley continues in the role of Treasurer.

We asked our newest Directors to share their thoughts on why they chose to volunteer for the Board of Directors.

Khrystianne

"I started from a small high school in Port Coquitlam that didn't have a good team. But when I found Vortex and the VUL, I felt so welcomed and never once an outcast. As a product of the Vortex program, during that time, I met an incredible teammate (Yimi Huang) and bonded instantly from the first tournament. She had passed away, but she was someone that I looked up to for always embodying good spirit, and I wanted to give back and share my passion with youth players."

John

"I volunteered because I personally wanted to be closer to my son, who's in high school and plays. He loves this sport and had been playing the last 2-3 years before covid hit us, but the VUL was such an amazing organization that we could continue playing during the winter, fall, and summer. It was bold, but it turned out to be the right decision. Seeing people of all ages playing was truly fantastic."

Kelly

"I'm a big fan of the ultimate community and am grateful for all the time that my coaches, teammates, and friends have invested in me.  I volunteer to pay it forward and try to keep building the opportunities for socializing, developing, playing, and competing that I would love to see in Vancouver."

Along with the election of Directors, members address three recommendations presented by the Board of Directors.

New Bylaws

Members voted in favour of adopting new Bylaws at the AGM. The previous Bylaws required a refresh to align with the BC Societies Act and best practices within not-for-profit organizations. The Board of Directors contracted Sport Law to assist with the review.

Capital Fund Request

Members supported the Board of Directors' request to access $230,000 from the Capital Reserve Fund to complete an upgrade and redesign of the VUL Enterprise Management System (EMS).

Strategic Plan

Members approved a new 2023-27 Strategic Plan. The new plan introduced revisions to the VUL's Vision, Mission, and Values and outlines the four key areas of focus for the organization moving forward.
