Updates to VUL 5v5 Rules

This message was sent to all Turf League Captains, Assistant Captains, and Rules Gurus.

Based on feedback we have received from the community, we have made the following updates to our VUL 5v5 Rule Exceptions.

Delay of Game

Previously, the delay of game exception rules stated "Normal delay of game rules apply (8 and 16 stall counts)." The new rule clarifies this and makes some minor adjustments to retain some consistency throughout our league programs.

3. Stall counts are to 8. Normal Delay of Game rules apply (count-downs from 20s for discs that are being brought back in from out of bounds, and 10s for discs that stayed in the field of play.  There is no additional time allotted to the offensive team for substitutions made or for organizing your team after a point is scored.

This is based on 2022–23 USAU Rule 14.A.3-5.

Too many players on the field

There was no previous VUL 5v5 Rule Exception for too many players on the field,  but due to the more fluid nature of on-the-fly subbing, this can be more problematic than in 7v7 formats, especially since one of the remedies in 7v7 is to redo the pull, which normally isn't an option in 5v5.

5.a If a team has too many players on the field (6 or more) or too many of one gender-match (4 or more), play is immediately stopped.  If the team that has too many players was on offense, the result is a turnover from where the disc was when the foul was called.  If the team with too many players was on defense, the game resumes after the additional players leave the field as if a timeout had just occurred.

These changes are effective immediately. Please share this with your teammates.
