VUL to Develop Trans Policy - Seeking Participants for Focus Group

The VUL is committed to fostering an inclusive and safe environment for people from all walks of life to participate in league play and special events. We recognize that athletics and sports can be specifically challenging for trans and gender non-binary people who are often forced to operate within a gender binary (i.e. 4 men, 3 women line up to play in 7s).

Recognizing that our current structure may be challenging for folks already in the league, and/or that the current structure may entirely exclude folks who do not wish to register given the gendered expectations, the VUL has secured the services of QMUNITY, BC's queer and trans resource centre. QMUNITY will review our policies, practices and procedures in order to support us to create a playing environment that is more inclusive of trans and gender non-binary folks.

One of the first steps QMUNITY will be taking is hosting a focus group to hear from members who may be most impacted by suggested policy changes. This focus group is open to trans and gender non-binary folk, as well as allies!

If you are interested in participating, please e-mail Joel Harnest, QMUNITY Education & Training Coordinator, at education@qmunity.ca by Thursday, Aug 18th. Your participation in the focus group will be held in confidence.
